My name is Jade Hope, I'm originally from a small town in North Carolina named Lincolnton. I grew up there till I was about 11, and then I moved to Charlotte, Nc. I grew up with 5 siblings, two brothers, and three sisters. I come from a musically inclined family on my dad's side, they have a gospel group that has been around for about 45 plus years. I've been singing since I could remember, I loved acting, dancing, and singing since I could be able to talk. I've been a praise dancer ( lyrical) since I was eight, and have been dancing in talent shows and competitions since then. Music is a big part of my life, I use it everywhere I go, rather I'm cleaning, or just chilling. As I've stated before I come from a very musically inclined family and wish to continue their legacy! A picture of my family (Right Side)
My go-to song: While at Converse, I study musical theatre, which has a big impact on what type of music I listen to. As of right now, I don't have a particular song but I'm getting ready for our musical season so I'm constantly listening to the " Cats the Musical" soundtrack. Also here's a picture of me in the musical last year!
A meaningful song: As I said, I come from a family that sings gospel music, and growing up gospel music was the most meaningful music. Since I could remember, gospel music has been a major role in my life. I've been a praise dancer since I was eight, but around the age of sixteen, I lost touch with it because of personal " lifestyles". I came out around sixteen and since then I felt that if I danced in church knowing this personal thing about me that I wouldn't be allowed in church and that I would be judged or unloved. But as I've gotten older, my love for gospel music and dancing has grown, and my relationship with God has been slowly building. The song that is meaningful to me is called " Amazing " by Hezekiah Walker. This song speaks to me because I somewhat let this part of me back away from the relationship I had with God and the song speaks volumes of how even though I allowed myself to back away from him, he still blesses me and everyone around me I love.
An example of music I don't really connect with: I'm the kind of person that will listen to any music and be fine with it. For me, this question is hard because in reality I "love" all types of music. I believe the music that I'm not particularly fond of is country. At one point in time, I did love country music but going back to the song I use to listen to every day, I'm not quite fond of it anymore.
Hi Jade, I think it is truly amazing that you want to continue your family's legacy with music. I also think that Amazing by Hezekiah Walker is a great song, and I think it is wonderful that it is so moving for you. I am also not that big on country music, even though I was when I was younger.
Hi Jade! I LOVE musicals. My favorite is Phantom of the Oprah. As a kid I loved watching Cats. That seems like a really fun major. I hadn’t heard the song “Amazing” before but that is a beautiful song. I am so glad that you have been able to mend your relationship with God, spirituality can be so important to people! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jade! That is so cool that your family has a Gospel group that has been around for 45 years! I also really enjoy Gospel music because of the beautiful intersectionality of music and spirituality. I'm excited to see you in Cats! Cats is one of those musicals that I'm trying to like more, I'm working on connecting with the music.
Hi Jade! I love that you want to continue your family's legacy with music. I haven't seen Cats the musical but have always wanted to. I also agree with your opinion on country music. I used to like it, but now I just cannot seem to connect with it.
JADEEEEEEE!!!!!! I love that gospel omg. That;s one of my favorite gospel songs as well and I played the whole thing. I also was a praise dancer when I was younger as well. I enjoyed reading your blog.
I admire you for your strength and musical skill! Gospel is not a type of music I find myself listening to often, so I'm unsure of the meaning behind praise dancing and gospel singing, but seeing how much love you hold for it in your heart makes it clear that it is profoundly moving! I think using music to rebuild yourself and your relationship with your beliefs is a great pathway.
Jade, you are so talented and I respect you a lot because on top of that talent is a strong work ethic I admire. My family doesn't come together over the music but I think your family coming together over gospel is beautiful. I had never heard Hezikiah Walker before this but its was a great introduction.
Hello, everyone! As most of you know I'm Jade Hope, I'm a junior here at Converse and I'm currently studying Musical theater and dance! When it comes to discussing the topic of gender and how it affects music, I become very sensitive. Not only is this a topic I still discuss with peers of mine, but I also find myself educating family members. What makes this topic so hard to put into words is because I identify as non-binary, meaning for me, I feel I don't fit into the " gender norms" or fit in "one gender". When identifying as non-binary in this industry it's harder to find roles that I would be comfortable in. And let me explain why. One of the reasons why I say it's harder for me to find roles in this industry is because in society, people already have an image of a character who is male or female. Rather that character is male or female, as a non-binary person I don’t fit into that typical societal image for characters and mentally it’s h...
HISTORY OF TUVA Tuva is known today as being a subject of Russia. However, it has not always been under Russia's control. Tuva was originally controlled by the Xongnu Empire from 209 BC - 93 AD. It was then under Xianbei State's control from 93 AD - 234 AD. Tuva was also a part of China's Qing Dynasty from 1758 to 1911. Lastly, Tuva became independent as the Uryonkhay Republic before coming under Russia's rule. The capital of Tuva was established as Belotsaksa and is also a part of Mongolia. In 1911 Mongolia became independent but was still under the protection of Russia. In 1912, the Russian Revolution ended the imperial autocracy which led Tuva to be occupied from July 5, 1918, to July 15,1919 by Alexander Kolchaks White Russian Troops. From July 1919 to February 1920, Tuva was under the control of communist red army until they were occupied by China from February 1920 to June 1921. Lastly, Tuva was a signatory to the March 1992 treaty that created the Russian Fede...
HELLO, EVERYONE! DAD SIDE OF THE FAMILY As most of you already know, I come from a Christian background with a very musically inclined family. Every year we have a tradition of coming together and sing songs. Some of my favorite's songs that we sing is called " Holly Divine ", " Jesus will open door", " Were you there", " Call on God" and lastly " Heaven" All of these songs have a special place in my heart. I remember being really young going to all of their performances and wishing I could sing with them. It was just warming to see them sing for God and really love what they do. Sadly, I couldn't find any videos of them performing these songs:( Or the quality of the video wasn't great, and you couldn't hear them clearly. But if you want to hear them sing look up" Hope family Gospel Singers of Gastonia NC" MOM SIDE OF THE FAMILY On my mom's side of the family, we have a Christmas tradition. When my mo...
