With Hip Hop, there are so many eras that evolved through the years. One of the most well-known eras was the " gangsta" rap era. This was known as the most controversial era during the 1990s. During the 1990s, hip hop became a reflection for how violent inner-city American black youths were. During this time N.W.A founded gangsta rap which became more confrontational which led to their album " Straight out of Compton" which then led to their song " Fuck tha police". Also, during this era there was a lot of gang related rivalry which influenced East vs West rivalry. The East vs West rivalry was a feud in the late 1990s between the east side and the west side. Two of the biggest influencers of this feud was Tupac Shakur (West) and The Notorious B.I.G(East) which later led to their deaths.

Overall, I enjoyed learning the history behind Hip Hop and what it means to different countries. I'venever looked at Hip Hop from anything different than a culture, but not only does it representculture but music and a style. One of my favorite things that I've learned is how most of the countries also use hip hop as a way uplift Black culture and a way to express their identity.
Hello, everyone! As most of you know I'm Jade Hope, I'm a junior here at Converse and I'm currently studying Musical theater and dance! When it comes to discussing the topic of gender and how it affects music, I become very sensitive. Not only is this a topic I still discuss with peers of mine, but I also find myself educating family members. One of the reasons why I say it's harder for me to find roles in this industry is because in society, people already have an image of a character who is male or female. Rather that character is male or female, as a non-binary person I don’t fit into that typical societal image for characters and mentally it’s h...

HELLO, EVERYONE! DAD SIDE OF THE FAMILY As most of you already know, I come from a Christian background with a very musically inclined family. Every year we have a tradition of coming together and sing songs. Some of my favorite's songs that we sing is called " Holly Divine ", " Jesus will open door", " Were you there", " Call on God" and lastly " Heaven" All of these songs have a special place in my heart. I remember being really young going to all of their performances and wishing I could sing with them. It was just warming to see them sing for God and really love what they do. Sadly, I couldn't find any videos of them performing these songs:( Or the quality of the video wasn't great, and you couldn't hear them clearly.
